Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Worst customer service, EVER. The food is decent, but the sarcastic and snide comments from that snooty waiter ruined my meal. Just because I am a student on a budget does NOT mean I should be treated like trash. Will not return anytime soon.

I just had the chanterelle paparadelle special. The mushrooms were hand picked just this morning and served with an exquisite cream sauce. To die for.

Absolutely terrible! I came because I heard such good things about this place. When I walked in the place was packed but my party was seated fairly quickly. I later realized that almost all the tables had no food on them and most of the people looked bored while waiting for their food. The specials menu, a chalkboard on the far side of the room was too far and small to read and our waitress didn't seem to even know what the specials were or even what to recommend ordering. We ended up ordering the bruschetta appetizer which the kitchen ended running out of the ingredients that were stated in the menu. Then we waited an entire hour for our entrees to arrive, and our waitress had totally forgotten about us. She didn't come to refill our waters or even give us the complementary bread. We had to ask another waiter. And when we asked for another tiny basket of bread he said he would ask... Whatever that means. Our waitress came back after 45ish minutes and asked us if we wanted dessert, and we told her our main course hadn't even arrived. Without much of an apology she walked back to the kitchen to check our food. Or so I thought. She can back saying only 2 more minutes and that it was because it was such a busy night and I looked around the room which looked mostly empty. When the food finally arrived, my entire party was sorely disappointed. The food was cold, had a strange consistency, and overall unappetizing flavors. The Seafood Pasta had good flavor but the noodles were like packaged ramen noodles. The pork loin which was a special was dry and the sauce was sour and thick. I can't even remember the last dish we tried it was that memorable. And the icing on this terrible cake was the overpricing. I was not impressed. Not worth even half the price we paid. Fin.

Very ordinary Italian food, very unremarkable

I used to love this place. Understand - my wife and I were among the very first customers here. We loved the food; the ambiance; the staff; the owner - everything. The food was awesome, and so reasonably priced that we went often. The owner would stop by our table to chat about any and everything; the waitstaff was upbeat, professional and never too intrusive. All that's changed since the original owner sold the place. Previously, Stecchino was a restaurant that served alcohol; now, it's a bar that happens to serve food. Our last dinner was bland and overcooked. It's clear that the focus is now on alcohol - the new owner has a 'throne' behind the bar, where he talks with bar-customers. We've been back four times since the business changed hands, and he's never once been over to say 'hello'; much less say 'thanks for your continued patronage'. He doesn't have to worry about that last one any more. Sad. (The good news? The former owner is opening a new facility just around the corner, in the old Odd Fellows building, which has been purpose-transformed into a restaurant. It opens in February.)

Ate dinner here last night for the first time since moving to Forest Grove. The server was knowledgable and explained the dishes well. She was attentive and didn't let our drinks go empty, and was quick to return after we requested something (e.g condiments, wine, bread, etc). They had live music (a man playing guitar and singing). Sometimes the music was a little too loud, but overall a nice compliment to the atmosphere. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. The food was delicious everyone in our party of four ordered something different: lamb, fish, seafood pasta, and steak. Overall we were all very satisfied.

I am not sure how anyone can give this place anything less than 4 stars. Becky and Mario are great servers who always know what we want to drink as soon as we come in. The prime rib is delicious and the mixed green salad with the sage dressing is awesome. Please note that 3 elite members having giving this place 5 stars. Come you won't regret it

Where do I even begin? I'll start by saying that Gordon Ramsay would have a field day at this place. It's got it all. Chintzy decor everywhere. A confusing, overly ambitious menu filled with dishes and drinks they may or may not have. And of course, amateurish, pseudo-sophisticated food. I ordered the tuna, one of their specials, and was served maybe three ounces of poorly executed fish from the frozen food aisle at Trader Joe's atop flavorless risotto. My companion's Niçoise salad was at times inedible and also topped with the same frozen fish. The bread was good. The desert was microwaved. The bill quite large. This place wouldn't last a week in Portland, but I guess no one is the wiser out in Forest Grove. Yikes.

Awesome meal as usual. Always luv ordering the bruschetta as they are always different.

Seriously good food. And a great wine list to boot. I loved eating here. Great service, great prices, and quality food. I highly recommend you check out the best kept secret in the Willamette valley.
(5)Joy A.
New owners and no longer a great place to eat. Food quality has suffered. Unfortunate as this was a place we loved to go to in Forest Grove.

Our first time here and we were very pleased with the delicious food & great service! Don't miss the Bruschetta, it was was a great start! I really enjoyed the hard boiled egg & prosciutto & traditional fresh tomato toppings. We also enjoyed their Cesar salad, which was dressed well ( not sloppy or overly salty). Nice wines too. Good all around!

Best fresh pasta Alfredo primavera! Service was personal and accommodating. Looking forward to going again

What a wonderful surprise. I was dropping my daughter off at college and I loved the look of this restaurant so we popped in for dinner. Fresh menu that changes daily, great wine list, and excellent service! We started with the bruschetta, and it was wonderful. The romaine and beet salad was pretty boring. (This might be my own personal preference as I like my beets roasted and not pickled, but I should have asked). My daughter had the homemade pasta with seafood and loved it. I had the steak and it was beyond incredible. A wonderfully flavored quality piece of meat that was perfectly cooked. The wine was well chosen by my waiter and the ambiance was ideal.
(5)William G.
So, yes the bruschetta was the best we've EVER had! We ordered the pan-seared rockfish - sounded great. For whatever reason, it took a LONG time to make it to our table, while we smelled the succulent chicken next to us, and were amazed by the pork shoulder at a nearby table. Unfortunately, the fish was a bit over done (and bland) and the veggies were cold. When we told our waiter (who was awesome in every way), he comped us our wine, which was more than generous. We'd try here again just for that reason - but maybe another dish. Three stars due to the great wait person!

Oh, man. This is the review I didn't want to write. In fact I've sat on it a month to really be sure of what I wanted to say. But it needs to be said. My prior reviews here have been 5*s. In its early incarnations, the food here absolutely deserved it--absolutely awesome. But the last two times we've eaten here the food was problematic. We took some friends to dinner here (after raving about this place for months to them), and the (previously fantastic) Chicken Saltimboca was very dry and overcooked. I shrugged it off as maybe just a bad night (heck, I'm sure even Gordon Ramsey himself has the occasional off night). But we returned again a month ago, ordering one of the nightly specials which was a ground beef steak stuffed with blue cheese. Wife N ordered a confit of chicken (leg and thigh, pan seared crispy). The food took a really long time (over 25 minutes) and we noticed the place filling up with smoke. The owner himself delivered our food to the table, and it was just frazzled. My ground beef steak was total charcoal on the outside (i mean, like, really black all over), and while I'm sure it once had flavor, it was now inedible. Wife's confit was cooked to the point where the chicken gets so dry it turns stringy and chewy. Even the skin was just chewy. Look, I cook some pretty awesome stuff at home myself. Anyone can have a bad night--heaven knows I've made plenty of downright awful stuff in my time as well. But it would have been far better for them to just be honest, head to our table and apologize---"So sorry, we totally overcooked your food and I want to make sure you have a great experience...we're preparing another one for you right now, can I comp you a glass of wine or another appetizer while you wait?" That would have been great, perfect customer service, and it would totally have turned it around. Instead, they pressed forward and delivered clearly burned-to-a-crisp food. The burger was around $20. For a $20 stuffed ground beef patty and an $18 chicken leg/thigh, we deserved better. I can't rate Stecchino a 1 on this--they're still not a 1. But this was definitely sub-par, in the "Meh" category, and I'm going to have to be honest on this one, much as it pains me to write this.

One star is generous. 3 prawns only and almost $30 for a lack luster dinner." I was with a large party and we tried to pay with three cards and were swiftly told "two cards only, it is on the menu" food tasted microwaved. Was overly salty and lacking in flavor."
(1)Roy M.
If you coming during dinner rush expect a rush if you can get a table. They make their own noodles every day. I have never eaten off the regular menu, I always pick off the daily special and have never been disappointed. They always have a beef, chicken/duck, pork and seafood special. The bruchetta (sp) is always always excellent. The wine selection is good. The staff is always very enthusiastic.

After reading the recent negative reviews, my husband and I chose a different restaurant for our date night dinner. Then we found ourselves looking for a coffee shop to visit and realized that FG is not a hotspot of nightlife. All the coffee shops we knew about were closed for the day. So... I suggested that we stop by this restaurant for a cup of decaf. The coffee was good but the dessert we shared was high priced and not very special. It was obvious that the waitstaff was anxious to close and just waiting for the last few tables to clear. We were served promptly but it felt very rushed. We witnessed an awkward confrontation between two employees. They were trying to be quiet but the restaurant was nearly empty and it was hard not to see them arguing.

I never leave 1 star reviews but now I can't say that. We had a party of 6 come to this place based on reviews from our neighbors. We were seated near the kitchen and got 2 little bowls of bread at our table. Each of us got a piece of bread and we asked for more and received a smaller bowl of bread for only a couple people about 20 mins later. 25 minutes AFTER that we were brought more bread. The waitress said she wasn't trying to fill us up on bread and that our food was still being made. There was only 2 other couples in the restaurant and food kept being brought out and sent back to the kitchen. The kitchen was smokey and filling up the main dining area with smoke making me think they kept messing up? A total of one hour after taking our orders, our food arrived. The red sauce pasta tasted like noodles with canned tomato sauce. The beer cheese soup was bitter and inconsistent. Terrible. The new York strip steak was ordered "medium well" and came out burnt with charcoal on the outside and bloody red on the inside. The gnocchi was tasteless. The chicken carbonara tasted like noodles with bland unflavored cheese sauce. I talked to the owner, Randy, about how terrible our food was and he asked if we wanted dessert, agreed that the soup was bitter, and comped our meals. We paid for 2 meals that the guys ended up eating because they were so hungry from waiting to eat for so long. We declined the desserts and waited about 20 mins to pay to leave. The two waitresses were awkward and avoided eye contact with us making it very uncomfortable. Horrible experience!

Stechino is in the rise. Had a great meal--seared Ahi--wonderful local wine from Zimri, and an all around first class evening. The restaurant was packed, live guitar music, and good service on a very busy night. The specials menu is large and changes with the season. Lots of wine to choose from. Wine tasting was going on in the front of the room. Taste some wine, but stay for dinner.
(5)Phyllis C.
Great find for short stay one night stop in this tiny hamlet. Atuey and Shana were delightful. Atuey's presentation of the evening faire and service was like watching a fusion of Vince Vaughan and Kramer working a room. The food was as delightful as the service. Don't know if we will ever pass this way again but if we do this will definitely be a stop.
(4)Emily C.
I was pouring at the owners wine bar on the corner so I ordered the bruschetta appetizer......it was aMAZING! You can order their food from the wine bar and have it delivered....great service!

I have read Yelp reviews for a long time now, and never had an experience - good or bad - that I felt justified the need to start an account. My opinions were never strong enough either way to believe I could sway someone to eat or not to eat. That has all changed tonight.... I couldn't get to my computer fast enough this evening to write this review. My dad had been talking this place up all week so I got excited. First, let me say this place is not family friendly. No high chairs or kids menus, they are too good for that. When asked if they had accommodations for the kids, the first waitress walked away in silence, then the second informed us there were no such accommodations upon pouring us our water. Second, we should have understood we were not welcome when the whole waitstaff and kitchen staff stared at us as we entered as if we were the walking dead. We were actually greeted with a half-smile and the statement, "We just want to warn you it is getting around that time of night right now where the wait is going to be pretty long." I wanted to leave, but my dad was insistent on staying because the food was so good. Ordered our food and a juice for our son, no booze. 15 minutes later my dad took it upon himself to walk to the bar and fetch some orange juice after a request to the waitress turned up empty. 20 minutes, no food. 35 minutes, no food, 45 minutes.... finally some food. To make things short.... TERRIBLE. One member of our part was served a closed mussel, we ordered french fries for our son, and all the food came out and the waitress said, "OH! The french fries!" 10 minutes later with no french fries, the waitress has the gall to come to us and say, "French fries are coming, I didnt forget them dont worry". 5 minutes, here come the french fries, dripping in grease and partially frozen on the inside. But dont worry, she didnt forget. We dont get out much with work and kids, and it is really a treat when we get to. Snood, stuck up places like this and what a lot of places are turning out to be now, are the reason why we choose to stay home. Good food and good service, is that so hard?

Good food, good atmosphere, very nice/personal service. Will definitely be going back!

We came in for lunch with our two kids, and learned that they do not provide highchairs or booster seats. We were very surprised. When we asked why, our server said they don't get very many kids in. As a general manager of a restaurant, I found this extremely unacceptable. They can afford to have at least one of each. We walked out without eating. To say we were turned off is an understatement. We probably won't even come here for date night.

Wonderful restaurant option in Forest Grove. Food is similar to what you could get from a hip restaurant in downtown Portland. Save yourself the drive and some $$ and eat local. Staff is excellent, especially the guy waiter - you'll know who I'm talking about when you get him. Staff makes a huge difference in your dining experience. We've eaten there when it first opened and again recently with the new owner. Our experience was just as good.

Went here for the first time this past weekend, expecting a great meal. Everything to begin with sounded great, even if they overplayed the fact everything is fresh that day. Well if you are good restaurant like im used to, it should be anyway. I expected some amazing pasta dishes available, or some kind of italian bistro food. I didn't get that sadly. The best thing on the menu looked like the roasted pork shoulder over mashed potatoes and the brushetta appetizer. The brushetta was tasty, most of it, but it was extremely hard to eat in the way its presented, and the presentation is insanely clunky, and not what youd expect from a nice restaurant. Ended up cutting my mouth multiple times trying to eat it. The pork shoulder was something i could easily make at home, one note, and that note was salt. The mashed potatoes were nothing to write about, and as well, i could make better at home. For some reason, also, they dont like to serve ice water, and only serve room temperature water to the tables. This drove me nuts. Overall, for 30.00 for one person, i will not return. The server played the one pasta special they had on the menu as 'a really good macaroni and cheese' even though it was supposed to be a baked ziti. Im still so sad, i was expecting something great.

We went to Stecchino 1/2/14 and had the lamb chops special and it was excellent. I think the latest complaints may be just a reaction to the change in owner? I don't know. The times we've been in, the new owner never sat behind the bar. The head chef, Jeremy, is still here and although he's trying a few new dishes, everything we've had has been great. There is a small increase in available types of alcohol, but not significant. Still a place I can bring the grandkids. Came back agsin 1/3 to get a salted carmel cheesecake to take home to my wife and I would not do that if the food had gone downhill that much.... Trust me!! I love food and have stopped going to lots of places over the years when the food went downhill even 10%
(5)Christine N.
I am sad. The restaurant is not the same since it changed hands. The duck is gone... The sauces are gone. I'm hoping it's just growing pains. We'll see...

If you want vegetarian options, or even options of chicken without pork/beef in your dish as well, then keep on walking. Super-amazingly-over the top priced food for what you get. We had a shrimp appetizer that smelled so strongly of fish, I worried it was bad. I wanted the chicken dish that came wrapped in prosciutto without the pork on it and it basically was a pan-friend small piece of bone-in chicken that had zero seasoning. The veggies were a bit over cooked and my husbands pasta dish was...at best... meh... Opt for 1910 Bistro down the street. Better food, nicer facility, better prices.
(2)Julieann F.
We had a wonderful dinner! I highly recommend the daily bruschetta - even if it sounds too weird to be good. For example, the evening we went one of the flavors was egg salad, which did not sound good to me, but it was great! All of our entrees were delicious - cooked and seasoned perfectly. As one other local Yelper noted, there's no reason to drive all the way to downtown Portland when this gem is located right in our own backyard!

I should be ashamed for taking this long to write a review with all the check ins I have here, but selfishly, this is really a bewt kept secret. I have eaten about 80% of the menu and it is all fantastic. The beet carpachio or the bruscetta (toppings change regularly) are my favorite starters but if you are more of a salad or soup fan, they are always fresh and always using the best ingredients. I have had nearly every fish special they have ever ran from rockfish to salmon and they have been cooked perfectly. My favorite dish is always on the menu regarless of what else changes and that is the Chicken Saltimboca - chicken with crispy, savory skin topped with a marscapone type cheese and a balsamic reduction sauce over sauted greens. Excuse me for a moment while I mop up my drool... OK, I'm back! Where was I? Oh yes - atmosphere. As for the atmosphere - it's classy but not stuffy and they have never frowned once when we have come in with jeans on (which is pretty much every time). The service is always spot on, the bread is always fresh and the food is always cooked perfectly. As stated in previous reviews, they do not cater to kids, however we have taken our kids once (12, 11, and 9) and they absolutely loved the food and even tried several things they had never eaten before. Price for a starter, dinner, and a glass of wine will run you around $30 per person give or take. Hey locals -stop going downtown and go HERE instead! It's fabulous...or don't and leave it all for me.

It's nice to have an Italian place in Forest Grove but... I had high hopes and this just didn't live up to it. With some of the other options in town I probably would go somewhere else than here. I was disappointed in the bruschetta (see picture provided) which our waiter pushed at every table (it wasn't much better than something I could make at home.) The meal was edible but it didn't live up to expectations, and I can't even remember what my main course was, so in a word it was "forgettable." Unfortunately. Side note: in case the restaurant itself reads this, the ambiance was lowered by the "not so great" mural on the back wall that didn't fit at all with the rest of the decor, it was so awkward I couldn't stop staring at it.
(2)Derek M.
When we eat dinner we almost NEVER think head west for a good meal... after a recommendation, this and Syun are now the only places we will do that for. We have been here 2 or 3 times and everything has been excellent, especially considering the price point for the quality Service was a bit slower on a Friday, but understandable with how busy it was. I love that they have some staples, but also rotating favorites. Each time the bruschetta has been different and GREAT. These are 3 LARGE ones that are a great app for my wife and I. also to clarify from below: it isn't super kid friendly, but if you have well behaved kids, for 5 bucks (or something like that) they will do a pasta with cheese and olive oil that our 3y/o loves.
(5)Teresa W.
We were served by Christian, who was a delight. His accent would make anything sound delicious, but this meal did not need the help. We arrived without a reservation, and were quickly seated in the unpretentious, but stylish, dining room. The wine selection was to our taste, and the wine and the dinner prices very reasonable. The bruschetta and the flourless chocolate cake bookended a very good meal. The soup of the day (creamless tomato basil) was outstanding, and the entree portions much bigger than what we anticipated.
(5)Justin H.
Wow....all I have to say. This is food that definitely has some heart into it. You can taste the homemade freshness. The Brushetta is a must have. I will be back for sure.
(5)Annette N.
This was the best Italian food I have had since my Italian grandfather passed. The homemade pasta wasn't heavy, the bolognese sauce was heavenly and everyone at the table wished they ordered it. I would have given 5 stars if the berry cobbler was really a cobbler, but it was mixed berries with fresh whipped cream and no yummy cobbler toppings. Husband had the steak that was done to his liking and really enjoyed the green beans served with it-he's not a veggie guy so they had to be good for him to talk about rhem. But this place is too good to miss. Just go and get the great food.
(4)Jim C.
Great food at very reasonable prices. Easily one of the best restaurants west of Portland. We eat here at least once a month and are never disappointed.
(4)Mary V.
I hesitate to write this review for fear that this gem of a restaurant will become overrun by people. This is an exceptionally good place to eat. The staff are knowledgeable, obviously enjoy what they are doing and those they work with and of course the best part of this place is the food. The chef is a master of his craft. The first thing we do when we arrive is check the big chalk board for the daily specials. We always order the bruschetta (changes daily) and have never been anything but thrilled at the yummy and inventive toppings he puts out. The beet salad and Cesar salads are big and can be easily shared. The main courses are really well put together and our favorites are the duck confit, oso bucco, chicken saltimboca and the fish of the day. The crew makes their own bread, sausages and pasta daily and it shows. The desserts are insanely good, but unfortunately, we are often too full to eat them. They made a vanilla gelato that we will never forget, absolutely wonderful. It is worth the drive if you don't live locally, this restaurant is outstanding.
(5)Connor P.
Excellent restaurant. We were told "Portland food with Forest Grove prices" and were not disappointed.
